One of the tools professionals use to assess the progression in Addiction, is an A&D (alcohol and drug history) starting with the first drink or drug, the patient ever used.

Can you guess what’s almost always one of the first substances used?

Marijuana.

Of couse the myth is, it’s  harmless, and non-addicting, a medicinal herb.

Strange.

If really so non-addicting, I’m not sure why we’re helping people to withdraw from it. The detox certainly looks similar to others. A wrestless, anxious, irritable period follows any withdrawl, including one from marijuana.

But it’s the psychosis that really scares me. We are seeing more young people than ever, coming in today, their mental health impaired due to this ‘harmless’ substance.

Today’s marijuana is not like it was back in the 60’s, when you’d plant a handful of germanated seeds into the ground. I’m not even sure it touches the ground anymore. Back then, you’d smoke leaf. Todays users smoke bud. Bud, which has often been laced with other chemicals.

Marijuana depletes the bodies magneseum, leaving the smoker edgy and anxious without it.

I know some of you will be saying, Jesus lady, get a life! What’s the big deal? Everybody does it.

Truth? Not everyone does use it. As a matter of fact, if you find you need it, and you feel better high than sober, then guess what? You’re like me and you’ve crossed the line into Addiction.

Thing is, if you need something else to make you feel better, its not really the marijuana that’s the missing ingrediant.

I found my missing ingrediant in recovery. Hope, faith, grattitude, now that’s a high that never wears off.

If you’re idea of a good time is getting wasted, I invite you to be curious. Get to know yourself better. Ask yourself why?

Why do I find life more enjoyable when I’m impaired?

Have you ever really thought about it?

Addiction – a conversation nobody wants to have.

  1. Very well presented view, and furthermore, a very correct view … The majority of people are ‘addicts’, as they require something beyond themselves to be ‘at the top of their game’, and marijuana users are seeking something to make them ‘feel better’ than they’d feel without it …or they’d not be using it…?

The problems lies not only in the societal refusal of awareness of some addictions (as it might deprive someone who’d complain and we must appease the masses! …and/or it might dip into the ‘wrong’ pocket book), but in the societal acceptance and condoning thereof.

I’ve little anticipation of seeing marijuana, alcohol, Xanax, or a plethora of other substances vanish or cease to be used and abused; however, I’ll keep hope within that others such as myself, will recognize our addictions, seek help, and find a way to a world far more satisfying and comforting when the addictive substances are replaced with positive thoughts and acts.

Glad to have found your blog ~please keep doin what you’re doin!
